Luis Castillo - Tattoo Artist

Luis Castillo

Luis Castillo a.k.a Castillo Tattoo had been tattooing since 2006 where he participated on his first convention in Yaracuy, Venezuela where he obtained his first two recognitions,2nd and 3rd place in color category, that motivated him to compete in other national competitions. In 2009 he started traveling to international conventions, his first visit was to Bogota, Colombia where he obtained 1st place in Shadows category and 2nd place in Oriental. Thanks to the feedback his work got, he visited other countries and competed, where he received many awards as an artist and as a jury too. Later in 2013 he began to study Oriental art and to capture it in the skin on the best way; A year later in 2014 he discovered that oriental art was very extensive and he focused on folklore yōkai (spirits and legends).Folklore Yokai is one of the most extensive expressions of Oriental Art, because they are hundreds of characters where each one has a different kind of story. Between 2015 until now, the development of the same style, taked him to another point of view with a mixture of realism and neo-traditional that allowed him to give workshops explaining his own tecniques.

For Luis this style is very interesting, that’s the reason why he has focused on studying it so much, since the characters, backgrounds, transparencies, and patterns have to take a piece in a good composition lend to harmony in the skin.

Among international conventions that he had participated since 2006-2019 he has obtained more than 90 awards.

JP Alfonso - Tattoo Artist

JP Alfonso

JP has been tattooing for 20 years. He got his first tattoo in his home town of Havana, Cuba at 12 years old. Having always been artistically inclined he knew then that he wanted to turn his love of art into a career. In Cuba tattooing is illegal and punishable by 25 years in prison. With that becoming a tattoo artist had it’s challenges. He began searching for people to teach him the craft at age 16. But he knew that to truly have a successful career he needed to come to America. Jp arrived in the U.S. in 2006 without having any money or knowing any English and began tattooing professionally here in 2008. He had a tumultuous career in the beginning having experienced homelessness twice and being fired from many studios. He overcame all the odds and in just ten short years has become a multi award winning, internationally sponsored artist with a large following of local and international clientele. Gordon Reese - Tattoo Artist

London Reese

I am merely a man; suffocated by art. I am a southern California native who loves life and all of the art in it. I grew up with a pencil in my hand and an unrelenting passion for illustration. I fell in love with tattoo art and culture at a very young age and received my first tattoo at the legal age of 18.

I did my first few tattoos in 2006 while studying fine art in college. After a bit of development and some real soul searching, I began tattooing full-time in 2007. I was fortunate enough to land a job with Mike Devries at the end of 2009 and worked there at his shop until mid 2012. I learned an entirely new skill set and approach to tattooing while working alongside the amazing crew. I’m very grateful for the time that I spent there, the knowledge I gained from all of the artists, and the friends I have made. In the summer of 2011, I competed in and won the title of the reality television show, “Best Ink”, a tattoo competition which aired nationally. I am fortunate enough to be an award-winning artist and to have had my art and tattoo work published in several magazines and books. I constantly strive to progress and to stay versatile as an artist. The art of tattooing is sacred to me and I am honored to be a part of such an amazing community of artists.

When I am not tattooing, I am usually working on new art or traveling the world with my beautiful wife, Lisa. I also stay very busy as the co-owner of Prophets & Poets, a modern art patronage in which we give back to the art community, by promoting the work of new artists and tipping our hat to the greats.

My name is Khan, this is a little bit of my story, I’m from South Korea my passion is tattooing, I love waking up in the morning ready to do a new tattoo, traveling is a big part of my tattooist journey, from my many trips to USA and Europe and Australia I’m very fortunate to learn from other artists, when I see how big and great this industry has grown, it drives me to try everyday to be the best tattoo artist I can be, is a great thing that I have he chance to travel and see tattoos and artists from many places. I moved to beautiful country Australia 2013 to do more focus my art and my family but, I don’t really know when I will stop traveling because in my opinion a tattoo artist never stops learning…the key is to stay humble and always hungry to learn new techniques and find inspiration to do better tattoos , being around more tattoo artists and new places is great to keep that hunger alive, to me it seems to never stop, all I can do is do what I love and do best….tattooing…

Coen Mitchell - Tattoo Artist

Coen Mitchell

I am a professional tattoo artist working from Matt Jordan’s Ship Shape tattoo studio in Auckland, New Zealand. Born in Australia and raised in New Zealand I began professionally tattooing in 2013. I specialize in realism, Polynesian and fine line work tattoo and recently have started pushing my own new style “mosaic flow” which seems to be taking off well both national and international through social media.

I went through an apprenticeship at a Polynesian based studio – Taupou Tatau, in Wellington New Zealand, where learning how to do a fine line was key. As I picked up tattooing I began to take a liking to realism. At the beginning of this year (2015) I was luckily enough offered a job at Matt Jordans – Ship Shape Tattoo Studio. So I accepted and took on the move up to Auckland where I felt it would be best to pursue my love for realism styled tattooing.

Hush allows my clients to sit comfortably, especially towards the end of the tattoo. I tend to mostly focus on having one client for a whole day session, by the end of the day Hush comes in handy to take the edge off, so I can maintain focus without having to rush the tattoo.

Don Taylor - Tattoo Artist

Don Taylor

I’m a tattoo artist from South Carolina. I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a little kid. I learned to tattoo in 2006 while in the Marines, stationed in Okinawa Japan. While on active duty, I could only tattoo in my spare time, which definitely made it hard to focus on getting better. When I got out of the Corps in 2010, I started tattooing full time in Columbia, SC. I mostly do color realism and new school tattoos, but I like to vary styles depending on the piece/client. Ultimately, I just like to tattoo, and welcome the chance to do something cool and challenging.

One day Spooks accompanied his best friend Brian to get his first tattoo and decided that he wanted to get some ink as well. However, when he got there, Spooky realized there was nothing on the wall that he would get tattooed on himself. He began drawing his own design for a tattoo because he didn’t see anything on the wall that he liked, recalled Spooky. When he was approached by Tattoo Joe and was asked if he ever considered tattooing. His best friend Brian over heard the conversation and kept pushing him to give tattooing a chance. “Brian was the one who inspired me, he encouraged me, not only giving me the confidence I needed in myself, but he physically made it possible for me to get into the business” says Spooky. Spooks apprenticed under 14 Gaje at The Kingdom on 6th Ave and west 4 in Greenwhich Village. Within three months of apprenticing, he was already tattooing. He began working two shifts–tattooing at one shop and going to his second shift at another shop where he shadowed some really great tattoo artists, studying their techniques. Spooky later moved to Florida s hortly after he met Rob G. from Tiger Tattoos in Kissimmee, who offered him a job. Tiger Tattoos became his home for the next five years. During his time there he really developed as an artist, “I was forced to spread my wings and take off on my own. I was forced to develop my own style and technique.” He was given the opportunity to tattoo many celebrities, basketball and football players, DJs, and was frequently invited to travel to other cities to tattoo on location. While his list of clients has reached superstar status, which includes NBA stars SHAQUILLE O’NEAL, AND DESHAWN STEVENSON as well as rappers CAMRON, TONY SUNSHINE, THEM FRANCHIZE BOYZ and BLOCK MONTANA, Spooky remains humble and true to the art form that offered him a new beginning. His motto has always been “Theres a difference between a tattooist and a tattoo artist, a tattooist reproduces, a tattoo artist creates.”

Justin Harris

Feeling extremely fortunate for doing what he loves since 2008, Justin’s tattooing inspires him everyday not only to become a better artist, but also as a person to reach his full potential is all aspects of life. My truest inspiration comes from my lovely daughter Paisley, if it weren’t for her I wouldn’t have half the drive I do in my career. His primary style focus on is new traditional”, a very Victorian-based style with heavy blacks. Currently traveling the country and enjoying the chance to meet new people, each and every day and client brings a new experience! With that being said not all clients on the road can tolerate a 6 hour tattoo, thankful to be a part of Hush, a product that helps clients sit a little longer to make it through.

It’s vital that his clients feel comfortable when getting tattooed. Whether its making sure every last detail is perfect in the placement or drawing of a tattoo, down to being as nice as using awesome products like Hush anesthetic to get them through those tough sessions, he feels that it makes a big difference in the whole experience. Traveling artist who attends many conventions- Travis does some guest spots in other shops.

Born and raised in the Dominican Republic before moving to New York at age 13, Jon specializes in custom neo-traditional tattoos. “I’m largely inspired by Victorian art.” Tattooing since 2008, Jon has managed to appear in several tattoo magazines and on Oxygen’s tv show “Best Ink”. This is a small collection of tattoos Jon has done over the last few years, which highlight his style and what he likes to tattoo. Enjoy. “I like the fact that Hush allows the client to get tattooed more comfortably, it not only allows them to be able to sit longer but it helps to reduce skin irritation. It’s very helpful when Im doing very large tattoos at conventions to finish off those long tattoo sessions. I have tried Hush Gel on myself when I was tattooed by Adrian Dominic and was amazed at the difference in pain while I was being outlined. Really, the change in pain was drastic to say the least. It also does not effect the texture of the skin or the healing process of the tattoo which is by far the most important thing. This is why I can tell my clients and other tattoo artist confidently to use Hush.

Andres Acosta - Tattoo Artist

Andres Acosta

Andres began tattooing in 2009 back in his native Venezuela. In 2010, he met and married his wife, an American, and came to live in the greater Houston area where he began his professional career. When he is not tattooing at his home shop, he is busy doing guest spots and conventions all over the country and the world. Andres says, “Since I’ve been using Hush, my clients can sit more comfortably, and I can say that Hush gives me that extra edge to finish my tattoos with no rush”.
